Published on July 23, 2011 By Uvah In Personal Computing

This morning at breakfast my laptop was working fine. Afterwards at the dayroom I powered up and all I'm getting is a blank screen. I checked the memory and reseated them, no luck. Tried to boot it with the install disk, again no luck. I need some help guys. Yrag...you out there?

That his computer repair place looks like a goldfish bowl.

Have to try a new power supply. Just waiting for a friend of mine. Slow going unfortunately.

Do you know anyone else with a Toshiba laptop that you could try their power adapter?  Most Toshiba's I have seen use the same power adapter.

Other than that, just find a power supply that puts out the same DC volts as the one you have for your Toshiba and has the same plug size and roughly the same MA Imilliamp) rating, that is what I have done in the past, used a power supply from my drill that had the same output to check my Toshiba once, worked fine.

Its an HP. A friend of mine is going to lend me the bucks for it. That's what I'm waiting on. Sorry if its taking so long.

Oh well, HP or Toshiba it does not matter, any adapter with the right voltage and stuff will work.

This I know. Four years doing electronics.

Tried another power supply, same voltage rating. Didn't work. I got the same thing, just the fan running, the blinking light on caps lock and no display. I think my lappy is toast.                            SHIT!!

Someone's motherboard has gone to heaven, I'm afraid.

Uvah... start looking for bargains. Oh yeah - avoid Craig's list. Newegg is usually best and cheapest.

Thanks Doc but its gonna take awhile. My finances are close to zero. Still unemployed too. Best I get is an occasional job here and there but lately because of the shitty economy they're few and far between.

The best I was able to find on newegg is a refurbished laptop same make but the model is different. 250GB HDD, 2 gigs ram @ 2.2 GHz but its an intel for 295.USD includes shipping. The other is an AMD dual core @ 2.10 GHz, 3 gigs ram with 250GB HDD for 320 USD includes shipping. I did find the motherboard though but there are like four different ones ranging from 79 USD up to 150 USD. Problem is getting to the part number on mine. Haven't been able to separate the lower part of the laptop from the upper. Got all the screws out but something else is holding it together.

Although I did find a Dell brand new with 4GB ram, 320 HDD with an Intel pentium T4500 cpu @ 2.30 GHz for 380 USD. Need to find a bank to rob. lol

something else is holding it together.

Caramelized spiders and flies, no doubt.

Can't the laptop store do it for you? Are they still closed?

on Aug 09, 2011

Last I saw they were. As for the caramelized spiders and flies...I wouldn't doubt it. Love your sense of humor Doc.

There's a knack to getting lappies apart... not that I ever figured it out.  My niece had a couple of dead ones and wanted the HDD's removed and destroyed for security purposes.  Yeah, I had to cannibalise them severely... a bit of brute force and ignorance did the trick.  Once the screws were out I just prised them apart, yanked the HDD's and beat sh!t out of them with a 5lb hammer.   Nobody's retrieving any data off of those any time soon.

Yup there's nothing like a smashing good time to lift flagging spirits.
