A place to keep my work.

Lately, more like several months, I've been using Win 10. Despite the fact that I had, past tense, Win 8.1 on my laptop. I no longer do. I have been doing everything on Win 10 now and completely forgot about 8.1 so...I 86'd it. Gained almost 400 gb in the process too. All the proggies I used on Win 8.1 I have on 10 plus I have multiple backups, all external. I guess you could say I succumbed to the inevitable...kinda sorta. Lol

starkers.... for a change of scenery....go check out the flat earth fanatics...or the vaccinations abort your foetuses...and all the other whack-jobs who are convinced they are right and the rest of the world is wrong.

It's all the same....simply sad people wanting to make a noise and be heard.

...and best way to do that?

Be controversial.

CIA shot Kennedy too....

...or was it Von Daniken's aliens? ...

starkers

You can read about it here and here

Those aren't statements from Microsoft, which is what you said. Microsoft has said no such thing. These are complaints from others who are coming up with their own theories.

Like I said, have it your way... don't believe the upcoming changes to Win 10  Proof of the pudding is in the eating, however, and Win 10 users will tasting it soon enough.

Anyway, I know what happened to me and now I'm done.  What do I care if people don't want to see what's happening, much less what's coming!

There is one thing we can agree upon. Windows 10 is controversial. On Wincustomize it was mainly DrJBHL, starkers and myself that brought up the problems with Windows 10.

On other forums other people made their voices heard speaking against the "features" of Windows 10.

One thing is pretty certain at this point: Microsoft will lose market share. Mainly to Google, but also to Apple and Linux. It's actually sad. I am not happy that Microsoft releases what I consider a consumer-hostile product.

Windows was (and still is to a lesser degree) the flagship desktop OS. Now people feel forced to move to "lesser" operating systems because they feel Windows has become intimidating. This is caused by Windows 10. Noone should be happy about that.

I do believe Bill Gates is in charge, Nadella being the poster boy. I don't want to belittle Nadella because I think he has all the technical expertise, but I don't think he makes strategic decisions. Ballmer made mistakes, but Gates and Myerson are causing almost irreparable damage to Windows.

If a desktop user is willing to move to Chrome OS, OSX or Linux it's a sign that Windows is in really bad shape.

If a desktop user is willing to move to Chrome OS, OSX or Linux it's a sign that Windows is in really bad shape.

That's it... in a nutshell.  Windows is losing market share and user satisfaction is at an all time low because of MS' strong arm tactics... its failure to put users needs and wants first.  I read on one forum a few days ago that an entire extended family [17 households] and several family friends had switched to Apple's OS-X because they believe MS had overstepped the mark and has betrayed the user with its methods and strategies.

I don't know that they are much better off with OS-X, though.  I personally know one person who switched to it because he felt pressured and bullied by MS, and thus far he doesn't seem to regret it.  I also know 7 people who are trying out Ubuntu and a couple trying Mint from Linux because they too feel like MS has taken over too much control of their PCs and will tighten the screws even further.   I have to agree, given the direction MS is going in, and I am also trying out some Linux distros to see which suits me best, not that I've had a lot of time to do so of late.

Having said that, I must exit this and other conversation regarding Microsoft and Windows 10.  In fact, I am taking a break from WC for a while, the forums in particular, because I need to distance myself from derogatory comments containing : "idiot" and "idiots"; "gullible" and "naive"; "whack-jobs" and "stupid".

It is conceivable that there are people who have not had Win 10 forced upon them, just as it is conceivable that people have not [as yet] had issues with it.  What annoys me is when the opposite is true.... that certain people see it as inconceivable when others have had/are having issues with Win 10, then use the derogatory names like those listed above to ram home their disbelief and unwillingness to view the issues with an open mind.

On that note, I have much to do in the real world and need to take care of it.

It will be nice to NOT have alarmist misinformation relating to Windows 10 disseminated on a website intended for the ENHANCEMENT of the Microsoft Windows experience.

Yes, there are issues with the current OS. [as there have been with all previous].

No, Microsoft is not evil.

A voluntary 'rest' will serve all well.

Last year, the big lie was Microsoft was going to start charging subscription fees for Windows 10. The big lie this year is that they will make win32 stop working and UWP will only work with the store. I don't see any of those things happening.

As far as they spying goes, I don't think anyone has proved that Microsoft ISN'T doing exactly what it says its doing with the telemetry. I am far more worried about what Google does with my data. This is one reason I stopped using Android phones in favor of windows phones (but certainly not the only reason) and have cut way down on using Google services.

I have at home a gaming computer running Windows 10 on insider build (which I upgraded from Windows 8.1 last year when Windows 10 first came out), a windows 10 phone running release version, xbox one running the preview build, a amazon fire tablet and android tablets running a variety of Android versions, along with a two work computers one running windows 10 release and one running windows 7. Before I changed positions last summer I was using a MacBook Pro running Yosemite and Windows 7 computer at work. I really do think Windows 10 is the best OS I've used, it's gotten better over the year and I think the Anniversary Update will be a big improvement over last fall's update. I think all of the "A Micro$oft ate my windows 7 baby!" hyperbole is way overwrought.

I'm sorry I started this thread. Really...
