Think of all the left wing U.S. hater citizens

personally I think moderators should have two identities. one that wears the moderator hat, all reasonable and helpful, etc., and another that fits your pointy heads when you make these kinds of statements. I'd hope this isn't the official stance of WC or SD.

Pointy hat on - Give me a break.  Lantec has just as much right to post his opinion as anyone else here.

Moderator hat on - Hope everyone is having a nice day.

read the quoted portion of my post....

notice I start my post with "It could be......"

how in the world could you infer an official stance from "It could be..."

for some reason the smiley didn't show....

edit: or are you saying there are no "Left Wing U.S. haters" GMC2?

The bottom line is this. Whether or not the photos are released the terrorists are going to be "inflamed and emboldened" regardless. Your damned if you do and damned if you don't...it's not like they "need" a reason for violence...and all the photo would do is give them an image other than the one they already put on their banners. And if Obama is so damn concerned about our troops...why is it that if our government shuts down the troops who are in harms way for this country don't get paid...but the greedy insane politicians tucked safely away in their beds do? If this isn't hypocritical I don't know what is.

The way this whole thing was handled was a bit sketchy. On one hand they don't want to piss of the terrorists by releasing the photos...yet before the guy had a chance to bleed out he was fish food? And from what I've read this act alone pissed off the terrorists...in some cases it would have been acceptable...but this wasn't one of them according to them. And why the big rush? I mean it took roughly 10 years to find the guy and then in a blink he's dumped in some secret location in ocean.

And not to fan the conspiracy flames...but I feel somewhat insulted when they said that the "DNA" will prove it was him and that he's dead. Well how the hell does that prove he's dead without actually seeing him on a slab? They could have caught him...took his DNA and shuffled him off to some dark hole somewhere for further interrogation. It's not like our government is a shinning example of truth. And if they can shoot the woman in the leg why not him as well? Unless the whole plan was to kill him and not capture him in the first place. Like I said...it all happened to quick and a bit to sketchy.

In the end...without the photo...which I'm really not in a hurry to see...what choice do we have but to accept that he's dead...at the bottom of the ocean.

And as far as "two wrongs don't make a right"...when it comes to government I don't really think that applies.

And what exactly is a left wing U.S hater citizen? These labels are really vague and annoying sometimes and I for one would love to see them come to an end. How can we get anything done with all this division between everyone in this country. Pretty soon we'll have as many party labels as we do religions if not already...and none of them make any sense either. I don't subscribe to any party...so it doesn't apply to me...but I'd still like to see it end.

What the hell is wrong with this world and this country anymore? When did everyone get sucked into politics to this degree and when is it going to go back to people actually enjoying their life and getting along? I Love this country...but I'm almost ashamed to be an American. It's like we all live just to support the insane whims of politicians who are getting better and better at dividing us and driving this country into the ground.

I'm pretty much a left-wing US hater, but I can't think of any country I hate less than the US, we haven't colonized Mars or Venus, and Johnny Depp hasn't opened his island up to immigrants, so the US is still where I call home.  That being said, let me state I'm glad "we" (somebody, anybody), put an end to Osama bin Laden, I don't need a picture, video footage, or a fax of his DNA report to make me believe it, because I didn't need any of those pieces of evidence to prove to me that he existed in the first place.

What I'm truly joyous about is the REAL thing that matters in the raid on the compound in Abbottabad, the Navy Seals walked away with flash drives, cell phones, computers, etc. and THAT, my friends, is so, much more valuable to our security here in the US, than any proof of the death of Osama bin Laden (an old, diseased man who didn't have much longer to live whether he had a bullet in his head or not).  We OWN the intelligence trail that was in the head of bin Laden--why care about his body?

We OWN the intelligence trail that was in the head of bin Laden

WOW! We KEPT his head and dumped the rest of the carcass at sea!! EXCELLENT!

DNA proves it's him if it matches, not whether he's alive or dead. Another will fill whatever passes for his shoes, much like other gangsters and dope dealers. We'll deal with him/her whenever.

As for 'proving' he's dead? Photos can be faked, will be sickening and in the end just make us a look ugly.

Let's not supplant the "birthers" with "deathers". PLEASE!

As for the politics stuff, I agree. I'm tired of labels/code and other nonsense meant to divert us and polarize/divide us from dealing with the real issues.

"Was it legal to kill him?" Well, he admitted to planning 9/11 and he declared war on us long before. Case closed. Why waste time with this pseudo-intellectual wanking? Oh yeah... sells more T.V. time for advertisers.

As for inflaming the radicals, just as you say but (and it's a real but) they don't know if he's dead or not either. Why give them evidence to motivate them and get them to name a successor sooner? Leave them confused and uncertain with an unclear chain of command. Much better.

The plan was either to kill or capture... we'll never know which happened. To put him on trial? I doubt any city or place wishes to become another or potential "Ground Zero". If he's a captive, he'll talk one way or another. If he's dead, no loss to the human race.

As to this nonsense about the Pakistanis not letting us talk to the other prisoners? If true, turn off their aid and shut them down. Find their nukes and erase them (the nukes) permanently, in any case. Enough of this namby-pamby crap. If the World doesn't like it? Tough shit. I don't see them doing any better.

of course there are, just don't think that that vast majority that do, live here in the US. I mean, just because someone is a liberal doesn't mean that they hate their country.

You've taken that out of context.  It was directed at the Arabs dancing in the streets due to 9/11 and the idiot Americans doing the same thing due to bin Laden's death.

What I'm truly joyous about is the REAL thing that matters in the raid on the compound in Abbottabad, the Navy Seals walked away with flash drives, cell phones, computers, etc. and THAT, my friends, is so, much more valuable to our security here in the US,

Really? You think that that is going to make us more secure here in America?  These terrorists don't quit.  We may disrupt some plans, but they won't quit.  The world will never get rid of them.  EVER.  You want to make America safer, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE ARAB WORLD.  That's what they want.  You want security?  GET RID OF THIS BULLSHIT GOVERNMENT that we have and start over.  Find people that actually care about this country and it's people instead of money.  There isn't one person in government right now that is there because they love this country.  They are there to make money.  And public office was never meant to be a position of profit.

Valuable to our security.  Please.

You are just plain wrong about the potential value of the captured intelligence.  Has to be decoded (some of it) and analyzed (all of it) and then we will see what we have.  But, I would rather have it than not have it that is for sure!!

Agreed…rather than the United States always playing babysitter to the world, we need to concentrate on getting our own house in order and let nature take it’s course in other parts of the world. Sink or swim, fight or flight, stand or fall, fail or succeed (and here, no more damn bailouts and gov’t waste!)…but all on THEIR own. If they want freedom, democracy and independence bad enough, they'll make it happen themselves. If not, so be it...

You know WG, in this particular case, that wouldn't bother me at all.  Actually I kind of like the sound of it.  Certainly not an idea that's going to cause me to lose any sleep.

But honestly, just because of the nature of the operation and the target, I imagine he simply got shot in the chest and head.

We'll see, but I highly doubt it.

Sorry this post is long, but I've been away for the last 24 and am just now catching up.

DrJBHL

I do have a thought, M-203: Such photos would probably inflame Fundamentalists, and perhaps induce one or more to attack our leaders, servicemen and/or civilians i.e. tourists in countries with large enough Fundamentalist populations to have such incitable factions in the larger population.
...

That's the revenge part, which WILL come regardless of photos being released or not.
The immediate picture I got in my head when I read that the photos were supposed to pose a security risk,
was the SEAL Team standing around a body in the same manner a hunter does after he bags a 12-pointer.
Foot on top, cap pushed back, rifle laid over the shoulder and faces shown in plain sight.
Now if that is NOT the case, then I cannot see how a photo in this instance could pose a security risk.

DrJBHL

Sorry Doc, I'm gonna have to call you out on this one.

Yes, photos CAN be faked, on the other hand, who's to say that:
1.  The DNA "we" have (think about who exactly has said DNA) really IS the DNA of OBL?
2.  The DNA that was obtained to compare to the DNA the "we" (see above) have, really was obtained from OBL?

No disrespect to the SEAL Team, I served myself, but, a SEAL Team, and myself when I was in the Army,
are/were in fact...     ...you guessed it, Government employees who must follow orders.

The above is just a thought I had on this after reading your photos can be faked comment.

As far as giving them something to motivate them into attacks,
if you think some kind of planning by some of those terrorists is not already underway,
may I suggest that you DON'T
1. Wait up for Santa at Christmas, and
2. Do not put anymore of your teeth that may fall out under your pillow hoping for a buck!

Ooooo, more food for thought, and NOT a dig at your comment k10w3...!
The last I bothered reading about the hunt for OBL, it said they couldn't find him because he was off the grid.
Now we're told, and supposed to believe that somebody who's off the grid has all those items present at thier location,
or allows all those items to be present at thier location?
................NOT!

I must be tired with this many minor edits...
