A place to keep my work.
a comedic take on one of his assertions...
Published on November 9, 2015 By Uvah In Politics

There are times when a little chuckle can make your day. I ran across this one in yahoo news. Its from the New Yorker and the columnist is also a comedian. Its a take off of sorts on Ben Carson's belief that the pyramids were originally used to store grain despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Hope you get a chuckle from this.

Rules for Radicals rule #5. Also #12.

Who would have thought, politicians have crazy ideas, go figure.

The problem is that at the time this came to light Carson was leading in the polls for the nomination of the Republican party for President of the United States. Carson also believes in creationism. Carson is also pro guns. Carson is a fraud and a liar as evidenced by the statements he has made and the things he put in his book. Carson also has other beliefs which I strongly disagree with which I won't mention here because I don't want to start a fight with anyone. Basically I do not agree with Carson on practically anything. To think that a man like that is even in the conversation about being President is very disturbing to me. Trump even looks good compared to Carson and I can't stand Trump. Talking to friends, who differ with me politically, it's been shoved in my face how Hillary is a fraud and a liar as well. To a certain extent most of the candidates have issues but I think Carson takes the cake. Even Bernie, who I support, has a few things that can be looked at with a critical eye.

This is a good post because it shows the reality of the situation: Americans have extremely varied ideas on what makes a good public policy. One side says the Government should do almost nothing, the other side says the Government should do almost everything. Pyramid silos and creationism are largely irrelevant when it comes to public policy so why should they be relevant factors in choosing a President? We should be talking about the public policies the candidates support. People on the right oppose Obama and Clinton and (Socialist) Bernie Sanders mostly on policy. My hope is that the same is true of people on the left against Carson, but this kind of news press doesn't indicate that. Carson (and most on the right) are being attacked on non-policy, non-character perspectives.

Policies and character are important, the most important, and the fact is that both Carson and (Socialist) Bernie Sanders have a lot of followers because a lot of people agree with their policies and characters.

Carson does appear to have a problem with being factually accurate though, he's ill informed on a great many subject the voters don't particularly care about.  The question is will he be ill informed on something that matters.

Our current moron in chief suffers from that particular problem in a particularly bad way, and the result is that we're working hard to overthrow petty dictators with moderate views, and put Islamic radicals in their place, and being nicer to people that want to kill us than we are to to our neighbors to the north, who we just shafted for supposed environmental concerns that don't exist.  I may oppose his ideology in every way possible, but it's his poor grasp of reality that is in danger of resulting in WW3 a decade or two from now, not his socialist views on the economy.

If Carson can't get his shit straight, I consider it a valid problem.  Which is a problem, because he's one of the three that have a prayer that I don't think would be worse than ending up with Hillary for 4 years so she can give us a super majority in both houses before losing her next election.  Politifact may be a questionable rag that seems to do a lot more negatives on the conservatives while loading progressives up with positives(Hillary's profile is particularly egregious), but it says something when he's got mostly negatives even compared to other conservatives.  Cruz has the same problem, nice views on issues, poor grasp of the facts surrounding them.

Accuracy requires care, researching further than the headline on whatever study happens to support your views.  Carson doesn't appear to do this rather frequently both on extraneous and contemporary issues, so the big question will be does he treat his tasks as president like he did learning neurosurgery, or like he has studying Egyptology?  A hard working genius he may be, but he opens his mouth when he knoweth not, frequently on political matters as well.

West point scholarship? He's a liar.

Creationist? He doesnt have a firm grasp on reality.

Go ahead and vote for him, but be careful what you wish for.

West Point scholarship is up for debate still.  West Point itself advertises scholarships even if they aren't technically a scholarship.  The reporting on this started quite loose(outright falsehoods, to be exact), and I am less than interested in hearing from the writers at Politico after they so horribly botched their story in the first place.  Whether all the ass covering will in the end refute any possibility that general offered to get him into West Point is still quite open.  We do know he wasn't there for Memorial Day, but he was there earlier in the year.  When you're writing memoirs 40 years after a minor event in your life took place, it's not lying if you get the date wrong, it's a natural biological failing of the human body, imperfect recall.

Creationist?  Eh...  There are much worse things to believe in, income taxes, corporate taxes, inventory taxes, capital gains taxes...  That's just on the subject of taxes!  Evolution still lacks a great deal in the way of proof, the absurdly impossible complexity in a single strand of DNA is just epic, proving that it all just happens without help is a damned high bar.  I can forgive someone thinking the Earth is 6000 years old, it's a hell of a lot smarter than believing ideas that punish effort and reward apathy will improve the economy.

Ah....Politics.

Time to move the thread.  "Everything Else" excludes Politics.
