A place to keep my work.
or...who's got the guts

In keeping with the finest of traditions I attribute to the great skinners of the WC community. I have but a single question. With all the jibe about curried cabbage what would a WB look like if someone would dare make one using the now infamous 'curried cabbage' as a theme. Any takers?

Brassica (pronounced /ˈbræsɨkə/ brás-si-ca) is a genus of plants in the mustard family (Brassicaceae). The members of the genus may be collectively known either as cabbages, or as mustards. Crops from this genus are sometimes called cole crops, which is derived from the Latin caulis, meaning cabbage. *edit {Caulis in starkerese means fart}

Uvah...sydney has the sharpest wit I've yet encountered on WC.... might also be referring to the sheer Brass one needs to make such a skin

I learned something new today. And yeah...I agree. You need big brass ones for this skin. But you gotta admit...If anyone can Po's the one to do it. His work so far is inspirational to say the least. So very unique. Hey...where's starkers   I haven't heard a bark in awhile. Maybe because the storm broke up.

*edit...don't you mean...KABOOOOM!!!!!

What's a Brassica?

I'm trying to shrink the start menu's footprint.

Hey...where's starkers

starkers had a major PC issue.... primary OS drive died and took my media files and skin files partitions with it. I can easily replace the media files by re-ripping my CD's, but all my skin files are another story and many may have to be redownloaded if my mate at the PC store can't recover them.... fortunately quite a few are still on my secondary OS, but not all were installed/stored there, so I will have to redownload some if Pat can't retrieve them.

What a shit of a thing to have happen... and just before I could back everything up on the external as well!  There were no warning signs (whirring sounds or thrashing, etc), either.  Yeah, I got a call from my PC store to say my 500gig SATA drive had come in for my new external case, so I shut down and took off to pick up my new  HDD... when I got back I assembled the external, plugged it it and booted up... no go, no OS... the bootmanager was missing... and BIOS wasn't detecting the drive.

Anyhow, I opened up the case, tried reseating the connections, etc... still no go. I then tried several Sata ribbons and power connectors... still no go, so then I tried the 3 other SATA ports on the mobo... still no go.  I could only conclude, therefore, my HDD had died, which is a right royal pain in the arse, not only cos it's less than 8 months old, but that I had to pilfer the one from the external case to reinstall my primary OS, meaning I have to get another for my external backups.

Did I mention that I'm totally pissed that this had to happen (losing all my skins and music files) just prior to (like by just a few moments) to having my external ready to back them up!!!!  Damn, despite making a backup in my skins folder, I even lost a lot of my Impulse backups as well.  Fortunately, however, I had a few but not all archived on my secondary OS so didn't have to redownload all my SD apps.

Effing computers, and I've spent the last 2 days reconfiguring my rig and installing the OS/proggies, etc.  Still haven't finished, but I figured a break here for a while was in order, though I will have to get back into it shortly if I want to get it all set up before Monday morning (Oz time), cos I got tradesmen coming to do some work on the place and the power will have to be off for some of it.

As long as it doesn't leave any skidmarks....

Didn't you know, sydney, starker/curried cabbage barks leave no skidmarks.... no undies, either.

Brassicas are not entirely a healthy diet in excess see here and add thiaminase to destroy vit B1 to the list too.

Because they was totally evaporated along with the HDD when a rogue starkerbark struck broadside and nearly sunked the ship. Fortunately it was above the skidmark line, hense no leavebehind telltales, and all was saveded. 'Cept of course the HDD. It had to be forwarded to the big granite mountain in Utah for safe burial and the shipping costs was gastronomical.

Hope your rig comes along none the worse for wear starkers. I know what it's like to be without. I'll leave a prayer for you in the 'Puter god's inbox. He may be a bit busy so don't fret if it takes a while for him to answer. His rig suffered a meltdown when the starkerbark ric...ric...bounced of your's and banged into his.

E-bay's runnin' a sale on undies, unshaded of course, all in designer greenish/brown. $0.997 after walkin rebates

There ya go! I sez tha's 'sheer' genius!

But seriously, mate...that was a new drive, wasn't it? Hope you had a backup somewhere! Sorry it happened to ya Cap'n.

Gotta wonder if that crazy bugger Uvah might be right about the bark hittin' the hdd broadside.

Told you

on Jun 13, 2009

But seriously, mate...that was a new drive, wasn't it?

Yup, just under 8 months old... puter shop will try get the data off it before sending it back for replacement... apparently there was a batch of bad Seagate HDD's getting arould... and looks like I ended up with one of them.

Hope you had a backup somewhere!

That's the point, I went down to get a new 500 gig SATA drive to go in my external case for those very backups, but when I got back there was no go on bootup.... my media files and skin backups were on the same physical drive, so yeah, I lost some of them because they weren't installed on my secondary OS  I'm not worried about the media files because I have all the CD's and can easily re-rip those... it's just a couple of video files I'd rather not lose because it'd mean having to reconvert them all over again from VHS, which is hours and hours of work, so hopefully those and my skin files can be recovered from the buggered drive, if nothing else.

Sorry it happened to ya Cap'n.

Thanks for that, mate... but it's not the end of the World.  After a few rounds of extreme expletves I'd pretty much gotten over the anger side of it.... then a few more rounds of extreme expletives dealt with the frustration and disappointment side of it.  Then I let off another round of extreme expletives when I was putting my rig back together... just for good measure.  Things didn't all go as planned so the obligatory F-word was used to express my annoyance... and to top it off, I let rip with a few more while I was reinstalling my OS and some of the proggies just to be absolutely sure I hadn't forgotten and cuss words I'd picked up over my 57 years... even those in Dutch, German, French and Spanish

Whenever things like this happen, I recall the famous Monty Python song from 'The Life of Brian' .... "Always look on the bright side of life. "  Yup, gotta keep a good sense of humour or ya go mad... or in my case madder.

on Jun 13, 2009

Hope you had a backup somewhere!

I meant somewhere else....sorry.

Western Digital has a good rep... maybe go with them? Naaah...you're not mad, Hatter starkers.

I'm just remembering my wonderful experience with my laptop and how crazy crazier it made me.

on Jun 13, 2009

Better that than having the whole damn thing disappear. I'd rather deal with small replacements anyday. It's less of a headache. Next one though will blow all those so-called screamers out of the water. Already started saving my pennies.

on Jun 13, 2009

I'm not sure if this will help since you are unable to see yours in CMOS but there is a known issue with Seagate drives that causes a boot manager missing issue.

There is supposed to be a patch you can run that fixes it. I didn't have any luck recovering my data when I used it a while back but I heard that some were able to.

You may want to search Google or Seagate to see if you can find the fix and see if it's your model that it fixes.
