A place to keep my work.
Lit the fire

I'm sorry, but sometimes I just gotta get things off my chest. So I'm gonna rant.

Ever since this todo with Weinstein or whatever his name is, all those allegations of improper behavior has IMO spiraled out of control. I got the new charger for my laptop and opening Chrome with Bing as my new search engine, I saw that Matt Lauer got fired from NBC for the same reason. What the hell does that say for our culture? Two dudes in Thailand bared their butts in front of a Holy Site and were promptly arrested by Thailand police. Now they want US help to get them out of it. (Since then I saw another article saying they were only fined). Such disrespect was unheard of when I was growing up.

In Brooklyn during the late fifties and sixties my neighborhood was as diverse as it gets. Jewish, Latino, Italian, African Americans. It ran the gamut. I had an uncle whose name was Walter. Not my real uncle but my dad's best friend. He was an African American and I looked up to him. Point being there was respect across the board. We didn't make exceptions. It didn't matter who you were or where you came from or what faith you followed, you were just another person.

This world has gone to shit and I hate like hell to imagine what our children will inherit. Rant over.

Thing is, some of the women who are complaining about Weinstein and other powerful TV/movies moguls were very much in similar situations, where no for an answer was unacceptable.

Sorry but I don't agree. No is and was always the answer. Reply 8 said it all.  Problem is now in this day and age "NO" isn't used much. Problem is children now don't even know the word. Just go to some stores. Kid cries, wines, screams, makes a fuss they get what they want. Doesn't matter if it's a toy or grocery store. I never had any of the problems of today. Never hit my children either but they sure as hell knew what NO meant.

These women coming out of the woodwork after 20 and 30 years and without any proof except for hear say. The men are wimps giving in . The news blows it all up and these people in today World believe it all. Bottom line is what was NOT a problem 25 years ago all of a sudden is and is now a Freaking joke.

Again Reply 8 said it correctly. It was a two way street and now all these women are victims. Bullshit. Lots of money involved here I'm sure.

Not saying all these women are victims, but there are surely innocent victims whose "NO" was ignored.  It could well be that some, if not many of these women have remained silent and stay in the shadows because of the shame.... the fact these were powerful men and they wouldn't have been believed.

Sure, we [as a society] could label all these women as job seeking whores who'd lay down for the right job, but that would be completely wrong and unfair.  We could also label the movie and TV moguls gigolos, rapists or players, but that too would be wrong and unfair.  Yes, both men and women got up to sexual hijinks behind closed doors, some with consent, some without, but let's not get it wrong and tar them all with the same brush, saying that none were innocent and deserved what they got.

That's why they abolished hanging, etc in so many places... because you can't resurrect the falsely accused

I don't think that at all. Some however could have.

I just think it was the time you know 20 or 30 years ago. The Women didn't really think much about a pat on the butt one way or another. I'm sure if things were bad enough they would have reported it right away. Still can't think it's now just about the money and attention. After all a lot of news outlets and TV people will pay good money for this information.

I have yet to see any of the men have a court date. (except for Cosby but there was evidence there) It is what it is. Doesn't change the fact this world is going to shit with all these  Political correct people or so they think they are but most know nothing.

Back in the day they were called gold diggers, opting for charm to get ahead rather than on merit. If color were to rub off their noses would be brown aka ass kissers. This is true of both genders. Show me the bucks and you get to walk all over me while I smile happily. I'm sure many people high up there in the pecking order have their own little following. So some big influential dudes lost the high muck a muck crown. Standing in the wings are the ones who will replace them and it will be business as usual albeit in a more discreet fashion.

Maybe you'll have to sign a non disclosure agreement or...

A future employer will write into your contract a clause absolving him or her of culpability should things go south or...

Maybe nothing for either side and any kind of assurances becomes a moot point. They don't exist and neither do you if you open your mouth. This last one carries on to this day. Difference is...shoe is on the other foot.

If something inappropriate happens at work that you can't live with,

is this your only course of action?

You report it to a higher up than the person who did it.

If nothing is done and it happens again,

Then your only choice is to find another job and fill out a police report

so there is a paper trail.

If you don't do this then aren't you to blame for any future abuse to yourself or others

and should be on trial with the perpetrator when something bad happens to someone else?

If this abuse was not reported at the time it happened as described above then

the person who didn't report it must have had something to gain by staying silent.

The abuser doesn't own the whole world so there must be some where to create a paper trail.

Now we are looking 30 years back,is there any evidence?

Yes, and I agree that some women [and even men] can/will use their bodies to get ahead.  It's a sad fact of life that these 'golddiggers' empower the already powerful so they can/do remain immune from prosecution.... and then there's the non-disclosure agreements these hopefuls have to sign before they even see anyone.  This leaves the innocents without a leg to stand on when their 'NO' is disregarded.

No wonder so many remain[ed] silent, or left it for 30-40 years to come forward.... all because the golddiggers allowed the greater empowerment of nasty men [and women].... and the legal ramifications and fears of retribution were far too daunting if they broke the non-disclosure agreements they were forced to sign.  Yup, their silence was golden.... and these filthy lechers continue to get away with it because they've got the whole process sewn up.

Anyway, I'd better go ban somebody over in the ban thread before I end up down at the TV station bashing some lecherous exec who couldn't keep his dick in his pants.

@ Iben.  If only it were that cut and dry!   It's very common for victims to be bullied into silence, and even though they want to report it to a higher authority or the police, they feel so intimidated that their silence is assured.  Now I'm not saying these women are weak, but it's usually only the really strong ones who say "fuck the consequences I'm having your balls'.

I commend anyone who stands up for themselves in such adversity because there was a time when I was too fearful to do it for myself and other colleagues.  We were never sexually abused, etc, but we copped shit from our employer until each of us began to leave for better employment.  The former employer ended up going broke because local employment agencies refused to send job applicants there.

I see your point for the past. However I think within the last 10 years or so that anything a Women or person reported is looked into.

To bring up something these people are saying from 20 to 30 years ago is bull. Show me actual evidence and get people convicted I may believe it. EX: Go to court and tell the Judge what you friend, neighbor, etc. said and you will be stop as it's hear say. Evidence.

Just ready to hit send and I have the news on. Adding what was just said. A Rep is being accused of touching a Womens leg while sitting together at a meeting or something in 2016.The guy may have turned around or something and hit her leg. Are you freaking kidding me. Hey News, show me a photo.

Solution: All men wear a body cam (front and back). Protect yourself now.

PS: Any women reading this I do like Ladies very much and respect most of them. I used the word most because that statement also for me pertains to men. There are people in both genders that don't deserve and respect. However what is going on is unbelievable especially without any proof.

on Dec 02, 2017

I agree on one point. Much of what has been reported is old, years old and difficult if not impossible to prove. Hearsay is what most of it is based on. This is where the difficulty lies, actions committed so long ago without proof to back it up. I applaud those who came forward but you have to keep in mind why they stayed silent for so long. Threats of job loss etc. is powerful motivation. This particular mindset lies solely with a generation that grew up with it. Fortunately (hopefully) the up and coming one will exercise some common sense and learn what the word respect means.

on Dec 02, 2017

Ross, you have it correct.  Respect.... respecting others no matter who they are, the color, religion, political party, etc.

on Dec 02, 2017

One fact still remains, whether it be an old or more recent case, powerful people threw their weight around to take what they wanted and then have it hushed up.... and maybe if the 'gold-diggers' hadn't been overly willing to throw it up, then maybe it would never have been an issue today.

Back in the early days of Hollywood and TV, it was most likely 6 of one and a half dozen of the other, and consensual more often than not, but these days things like that are not acceptable, consensual or not, and the media is all over it every time breast is touched or a backside is slapped because scandal sells papers, boosts ratings.  In fact, for mine,, the media should piss off and leave the entire thing alone.... instead of perpetuating it and bringing even more complainants out of the woodwork.

Put bluntly, we need to know about the important things: like what our money will or won't buy; what our politicians are doing to or for our countries; major disasters and stuff that can affect us, etc.  What we don't need to know who's screwing who in Hollywood and TV land or when.   Right????

on Dec 02, 2017

I could not have said it better.

on Dec 02, 2017

Back in the day we used to say men are dirty dogs. To men sex is love. For some men that's it. Nothing more. Men are hardwired like that but that doesn't mean that a man can do whatever he wants..

Take that and then add positions of power. Men in powerful places. Like Trump said he could get away with anything because of his position, his power. Why he even said he could shoot some body and get away with it. All his words as duly reported.

So are we supposed to ignore those things because we are fed up with being politically correct?

The leader of our country acts like a unscrupulous cad. It's no wonder this stuff is all over the place.

I don't like it when the victim becomes the perpetrator. That's what is happening. All of a sudden these women are gold diggers.

How is it that a politician in Alabama is accused by multiple people of child molestation and is in a hotly contested  race to be a Senator? Many people have come out and said the guy was a stalking perv for many years.

None of this is justified by anything. I makes me sick.

Unfortunately, powerful people with bucket loads of money can and do get away with murder and other serious crimes that regular folk hang or do time for.  For mine, get rid of all the expensive lawyers and judges with deep pockets, then try everyone, rich or poor, on the merits of the case.  If found guilty, rich or poor, then mete out an appropriate sentence to fit the crime.

Yup, let's stop these rich bastards thumbing their noses at our courts and judicial systems.... the law enforcement officers who have to deal with rich scum who flout the law.  What really pisses me off on the 6 0'clock news is when a poor innocent person is acquitted, and outside court they're truly grateful for the process that set them free..... and then you see guilty rich people thumbing their noses and laughing their guts out as they walk away free as a bird.

Chasbo

None of this is justified by anything. I makes me sick.

Same here.  It also nauseates me when uninvolved people stand back a try to lay blame and justify one person over another because it suits their ideals/view of things.  There's only one truth here, really.  There's the guilty and there's the innocent.  However, it's not for we the public, who wasn't even there, to make judgements or to cast aspersions on anyone.  That's up to the courts... NOT us.

Preferential treatment to those who have notoriety, fame, money, what have you. Case in point, Meek Mills gets 3 to 6 years for violating his probation. The charges...illegal possession of a weapon and drugs. People are crawling out of the woodwork protesting the sentence as too excessive. Were it anyone else there would be no protests, no outcry, no nothing! It would be ignored. This is just one kind of proof. That its a matter of public record with all the news coverage makes it impossible to deny or label it as 'fake news'.

Question: Fake news or alternative facts. If facts represent truth then how in the hell can it be otherwise?

Sorry but prior to the elections there was no such thing as fake news or alternative facts. I would make my real feelings known but this is not the place for it.
